Just before 4pm on Tuesday, a man and a woman entered a jewellery store in Deniliquin, and bought items using an alleged stolen credit card.
Officers from Murray River Police District were notified and began an investigation.
Following inquiries, police located the pair – a 31-year-old man and 35-year-old woman believed to be from Melbourne – in a car park on Moama St, Mathoura, about 4pm yesterday, September 18.
During a search of the couple, officers seized methylamphetamine, heroin, cannabis, a glass pipe and more than $30,000 cash.
They were both arrested and taken to Deniliquin Police Station.
The man was charged with dishonestly obtain property by deception, two counts of dealing with property proceeds of crime, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, not complying with noticed direction re section 7/8/9 – COVID-19, and possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs.
The woman was charged with two counts each of dealing with property proceeds of crime, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen and supplying prohibited drug (between indictable and commercial quantity) and possessing prohibited drug, and single counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception and not complying with noticed direction re section 7/8/9 – COVID-19.
It will be alleged in court the pair travelled across the NSW/Victoria border at the Moama checkpoint while hiding in the back of a utility without valid permits earlier this month.
They were both refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Saturday, September 19. They were again refused bail to next appear at Griffith Local Court on Wednesday, September 23.
