ANOTHER day, another COVID-19 casualty - the Echuca-Moama New Year’s Eve celebrations have been cancelled for this year.
Organisers said they made the tough decision to once again cancel the celebration to ensure the health and safety of the community.
It comes as the event was cancelled last year due to concerns around a total fire ban.
Organiser Kristen Munro said it was a difficult but necessary decision.
“We’ve been given directions that this year it can’t go ahead,” she said.
“It’s disappointing considering we had almost 8000 people being part of it in previous years. For now, we’re looking forward to next year hopefully.
“Everyone gets a lot out of it, so it’s a real shame. At the moment we’re not the only community group doing it tough.”
Echuca’s New Year’s Eve celebrations were held in 2017 and 2018, the event being a culmination of work by community groups in the area to create a family-friendly celebration at Aquatic Reserve.
