VICTORIAN border bubble residents will be exempt from some stay-at-home orders within the NSW border region from noon today, Monday, June 7.
This means Victorian border residents can travel to the NSW side of the border bubble from midday.
The exemption signed by the NSW health minister only applied to Victorian border residents who had not been outside the Victorian border region in the past 14 days.
The exemption comes after pressure from border community leaders including NSW Member for Murray Helen Dalton.
“I was stunned when I found out Victorian border residents can’t even have a pub meal in a NSW border town,” Mrs Dalton said
“It makes no sense to continually punish these businesses when there’s no COVID case in either border town.
“The NSW premier gets lots of praise for not locking down people the way Victoria does.
“But she’s happy to continually lock down NSW border towns.”
The border region is defined the same way as in previous lockdowns. A map can be found here: www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-05/PublicHealthMap_50km_No5.pdf
NSW Health has been contacted for clarification on mask-wearing and if any rules apply when Victorian border residents are in NSW.
