Deniliquin Rovers’ youth brigade could be the key to unlocking the side’s finals potential this year.
Returning club stalwart Alex Hay will lead the charge again for the Rovers, and said instilling consistency and effort into his youth prospects would be a major focus at Memorial Park this season.
“Like every team I imagine, our pre-season has been fairly fitness-focussed, it’s an area we thought we could improve on with a pretty young list,” Hay said.
“We were good in patches last year but there were too many inconsistencies we’re looking to address.”
Former Rover Jordyn McCulloch returns from Wagga Wagga while Brady Trottman comes across from the Rams, adding experience that Hay hopes will work wonders for his young group.
“We had four or five significant injuries to key players at the start of last year, we relied on our young guys who stepped up and did a really good job,” Hay said.
“We’ve got some really good young kids that have been able to come through over the last couple of years, hopefully this year they can take the next step.”
