Mathoura outclassed by Kats

Mathoura was handed its sixth loss of the season by a quality Katandra outfit at the weekend, falling to another heavy defeat in round eight.

Katandra was 91-point victors on its home ground, with an 11-goal second-half the catalyst.

Mathoura could only muster one goal in the first half as the Kats ran rampant, with a 39-point half-time lead expanding to nearly 100 as the Timbercutters lost their second game on the spin.

Jake Cardillini, Stuart Day, and Jacob Simpson fought to wrench back momentum for Mathoura, but the efforts of Corey Hickford (seven goals) and Luke Smith (five) ensured the Kats moved into third on the Picola League ladder.

Around the league, Waaia progressed to 7-0 on the back of a 154-point win over Rennie, while Katunga was 59-point winners over Katamatite.

Strathmerton and Tungamah also enjoyed big wins over Yarroweyah and Berrigan respectively.

In the netball, Mathoura pulled its way back onto the winners’ list with a 53-36 win over Katandra.
