The Powering Communities Program will fund up to 12 projects each in the Nicholls and Farrer electorates, with grants between $5000 and $12,000 available.
The grants will help groups to lower their energy bills by installing solar panels or battery storage, upgrading airconditioners, hot water systems or refrigerators with more efficient models, replacing lighting with LEDs, or undertaking an energy audit.
Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum said energy bills were often one of the biggest overheads for not-for-profit organisations.
“Whether it’s a sports club, a senior citizens’ club or a charity group, by helping reduce power bills, these grants will ease the financial pressure on organisations so they can better focus on meeting the needs of our local community,” Mr Drum said.
“We recognise the great work many community groups across the region do, and many have done it tough during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Those in the Nicholls electorate will need to submit an expression of interest to Mr Drum’s office by May 5, available by emailing damian.drum.mp@aph.gov.au or by phoning (03) 5821 5371.
Interested groups in Farrer will need to submit an expression of interest to Sussan Ley’s electorate office by May 31.
