You may remember whispers of the International Day of Peace and the traditions attached.
Every year people from around the world send thousands of paper cranes to place in front of Hiroshima Peace Park’s Children’s Peace Monument in Japan.
GV Libraries is ready to contribute its piece of peace.
Originally, there was a goal of 1000 paper cranes; however, one anonymous donor smashed it out of the park.
On Friday, August 11, Mooroopna library was gifted 1000 cranes by a local origami enthusiast, single-handedly reaching the libraries’ goal.
GV Libraries is officially halfway through the project, so there is still time for you to fold your way to peace.
Get inspired by the gallery of cranes and view the full instructions on how to craft your own crane at www.gvlibraries.com.au/event/!/133/event/paper-cranes-for-peace
Folding paper can be a difficult task, so if you want to get around the crafting and coffee drinking, there’s still hope.
Local library-goers are welcome to join and contribute to a range of community art projects.
The full schedule can be found on the GV Libraries website, but here are the next Greater Shepparton time slots:
Tatura: macrame planter, Thursday, September 7, at 10.30am.
Mooroopna: coaster from re-purposed materials, Thursday, September 14, at 10.30am.

On Wednesday, August 16, News photographer Rechelle Zammit went to Shepparton’s origami paper crane session.
