The project will see pop-up lighting projections and solar lighting temporarily installed across the area to further improve the attractiveness of open spaces.
Four projects, including three in Moama, will be used as a trial, with a view to rolling out permanent features in the future.
The Echuca Moama Bridge Underpass will see a projection program that highlights the historic and iconic structure by transforming it into a temporary public artwork celebrating stories of our region.
A series of projections to light a section of the Perricoota Rd shared path network will be installed, to allow a safe passage for visitors and residents to dine at local businesses.
A project for Cobb Hwy will include the installation of a series of lighting projections to light the path and/or glow-in-the-dark solar lighting, to draw visitors to the space after nightfall and allow for a convenient and safe pedestrian/cycle path.
This path is used by residents of the local Cobb Haven aged care facility as a main thoroughfare to businesses. It will improve the safety and attractiveness of this busy public space.
The funding will also be used for an exciting and creative approach to Christmas, with lighting pop-ups in several towns.
Mayor Chris Bilkey said it was an exciting initiative for the council.
“This is an opportunity to improve our local areas in new and creative ways,” he said.
“Whether it be celebrating local stories, improving usability of spaces after dark or even supporting evening trade during the Christmas period via some exciting new Christmas displays.”
The Christmas lighting installations will be ready by November, with the Moama projects expected to be installed in early 2021.
Following the installation periods, MRC will then assess how well they are received by the community.
“At the conclusion of the installation periods we will actively engage with local businesses, residents and visitors to gauge their thoughts on the lighting projects,” Cr Bilkey said.
“Essentially, we want to understand how the community feels about council investing in permanent infrastructure like this to help showcase our local spaces.”
