Indie-folk singer-songwriter Tom Harrington’s shows are pretty intimate.
“I like to tell stories and express what the songs are about in a lot of detail, and I don’t mind getting vulnerable,” Harrington said.
“Trying to make a connection with the audience is the focus of every show I put on.
“I think Radcliffe’s function room is a really beautiful space as well, we are very lucky to get that.”
Originally from a farm near Dookie, Harrington started playing open mic gigs at university in Bendigo.
“I just started playing local pubs and venues,” he said.
“And then, I guess, the natural progression is to try your hand at writing your own songs and sharing your own story.
“People were connecting with it, so I kept going and became quite addicted to performing.”
Harrington is currently based in Adelaide, living and travelling mainly along the east coast of Australia.
“My first original song I got to record for free, I won this competition,” Harrington said.
“I kinda got a little help to start as an original musician.
“This song went well online and made me question whether I should give this a go.
“It is quite a personal account of saying goodbye to someone.
“And I found it quite rewarding to be that vulnerable, even in a public space.
“It hooked me in from there.”
Harrington has pretty much been on the road since then, playing shows up and down the east coast.
“I did my first headline shows last year, in September in Bendigo, Melbourne and Adelaide,” he said.
“This is my second tour, which is upscaled and branching out to a few more places.
“I have picked up some cool gigs, supporting The Dregs, the duo from the Sunshine Coast, doing pretty big things at the moment.”
“For the Radcliffe’s show, I have local legends The Wildlings — two local musicians, Drew Walker and Ryan Gay, who have teamed up for a duo.
“We are putting on the show together.”
Tom Harrington and The Wildlings are sharing the billing at Radcliffe’s Function Centre on Sunday, March 3, from 6pm to 10pm.
