Mount Pleasant too strong for Cats

The Cats clawed their way back within striking distance in the second term, bagging four goals and a behind to Mount Pleasant’s four goals and three behinds to see them behind by 18 at half-time.

Mount Pleasant put on its most vital stretch of the game in the third quarter, collecting six goals and three behinds to LBU’s three goals and six behinds.

LBU remained right there against Mount Pleasant, but unfortunately, the Mighty Mounts were too strong to allow any real comeback, winning the contest 18.17 (125) to 12.11 (83).

Jesse Collins impressed for LBU, kicking four goals, and he was joined by Brodie Collins, Jacob Haines, Tyler Phillips, Jacob Gardiner and Cody Betts in the Cats’ best.

Conversely, Ben Bisset delivered an attacking masterclass for Mount Pleasant, kicking eight goals in the contest.

A few things would have to break their way for the Cats to make the finals in 2024, but a bye next week could help them reset and claim some desperately needed wins the rest of the way.

Despite a solid all-round performance, LBU’s grade netball side could not defeat Mount Pleasant at Toolleen Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

Mount Pleasant won the day by 15 points, the final score being 57-38.

Like its football team, LBU will need to go undefeated for the remainder of the season to have any chance of making the finals.

It will have a chance to rest and recuperate this week with a bye and will then face second-placed Colbinabbin in a tough battle at home.
