Moira Shire Council has announced that Libro Mustica and John Beitzel resigned as mayor and councillor respectively on Thursday, November 3.
Cr Mustica has had an historic run as mayor, serving for five terms. His retirement has come out of his desire to spend more time with his family, and to focus on his health and his local business.
Cr Mustica said he was thankful to the community for electing him and supporting him throughout the years.
Council chief executive Clare Keenan thanked Cr Mustica for his service, describing his leadership as fantastic and saying that his influence on the community through his years of service would not be forgotten.
“Libro has worked tirelessly for a very long time to represent his community, and we wish him all the best as he now takes time to focus on family, health and business,” Ms Keenan said.
Moira Shire has also seen the departure of councillor John Beitzel. He served two terms and the council thanked him for the dedication and energy he brought to the role.
The Victorian Electoral Commission will be working with council to fill the two extraordinary vacancies, with details to be provided to the public once they they are confirmed.
The mayoral election will be held on Wednesday, November 9, from 5pm at the Cobram Civic Centre.
Deputy John Lawless will perform the role of mayor until the election.
