After a long wait, Leitchville-Gunbower has secured its first victory of the season after defeating Cooma in the penultimate round of the MchMahon Shield.
L-G went into the sheds at stumps on day one with the score at 0-32, looking to chase down the 173 set by Cooma.
Openers Billy Hawken (44) and Tyler Jones (59) both had an extended stay at the crease, frustrating Cooma with a resilient batting display.
Once they fell, L-G suffered a brief collapse until Jason Keath steadied the ship with 67 from 128 balls, while Simon Tatt (34) made an important lower-order contribution in the team’s most complete batting performance of the season.
Cooper Fawcett (6-63) and Ethan Palma-Ludeman (4-54) were the only bowlers to make breakthroughs for Cooma, as eight different players were thrown the ball in search of a wicket.
L-G can ride this run of form into the final round, where it will attempt to play spoiler and deny a desperate Echuca South side a finals berth.
Meanwhile, Cooma will hope to rebound as it hosts Tongala, looking to secure end-of-season bragging rights against a team which just passed it on the table.
