The fence has attracted people from all over Victoria and NSW, with more than a thousand bras lining the fence along the Cobb Hwy.
The charity has raised more than $8000, helping 20 local people who have to travel many hours to healthcare appointments with fuel cards.
“It’s had fantastic support from locals,” said Sharnie Celli, one of the organisers of the bra fence.
“There were a few jocks mixed in amongst the bras so we’re including the men now.”
It was a special moment when the first pair of jocks were added to their new section on the fence, hung there by the first man who received support through the Bra Fence.
New steel pegs donated by Deb Eagleton are ready to securely hang the jocks and socks.
There are also plans to add a memorial section to the fence, for special bras in memory of loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer.
To boost their fundraising efforts, the Mathoura Bra Fence organisers are having an event at 6pm on Saturday, May 1 at the Pastoral Hotel, Mathoura with 100 per cent of proceeds going towards supporting local people battling cancer.
“There’s raffles, live auction, barbecue, live music – a couple of guys have thrown a band together,” co-organiser Ann Robertson said.
Entry is $10 for singles and $15 for a couple, and an online auction is already underway on the Mathoura Bra Fence Facebook page, ending at 6pm on April 31.
“We’re hoping to raise as much as possible just to continue to support people,” Ms Celli said.
The organisers are still taking donations of items for the live auction. Contact Sharnie Celli on 0428 843 691 or Ann Robertson on 0429 843 579.
Donation tins are stationed at the fence, located opposite the intersection of Cobb Hwy and Frome St in Mathoura.
