In the MX3 division, the under-19 riding class, the team’s riders took out all three podium positions.
WBR riders posted second, fourth, and fifth in the first race of the day, before taking the top three places in the second race and in the overall standings once both races were considered.
Contracted riders Koby Hantis, Kobe Drew and Kayde Kingsford made up the podium for the WBR side, which is owned and managed by Echuca Moama brothers Nathan and Travis Whitten.
“We’ve got a four-rider team and our main rider Seth Burchell actually broke his wrist in the lead up to the event a week and a half before so we were a bit worried,” said Nathan.
“There was probably three favourites expected to do well and none of them were our riders and then we left round one with all the top steps on the podium.
“That was dream weekend that couldn’t have gone any better.
“We don’t think a team in Australia has ever swept the podium in any class.
“It's a pretty big deal.”
Echuca’s Tom Newland and Rochester’s Jack Arnold are also part of the race team, working as mechanics on the squad’s bikes.
The team’s riders are hired from around Australia to race under the WBR banner, but are often in the region as part of their training and preparation schedule.
“Before round one this year we had them all (in Echuca) for nearly three weeks doing a preseason camp so they’re all living here locally and training and riding,” Nathan said.
The National Pro Motocross Championship round two will be in Horsham at the Horsham Motocross complex on Sunday, April 7, before it heads interstate for the remainder of the series.
