Yartapuulti — the name by which Port Adelaide will be known during Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round — substituted Wines out of the side’s one-point win against Hawthorn on Sunday with a recurrence of a heart problem.
The Power star sometimes experiences a condition where, in layman's terms, his heart is out of rhythm.
The 2021 Brownlow winner sank to his haunches when nearing a passage of play late in the first quarter against the Hawks and then slowly made his way to the interchange bench.
Wines also experienced heart palpitations during a game against Narrm (Melbourne) in April 2020. He was also subbed out of that game and sent to hospital, where a heart irregularity was diagnosed.
On Sunday, Wines remained at Adelaide Oval and his coach Ken Hinkley said the star midfielder recovered from the episode by post-game.
"Ollie has dealt with this condition for a while now," Hinkley said.
"It's an issue in-game when it happens because you have to treat him and to do that you have to take him out of the game.
"Ollie is actually well. It's not something that he can't handle."
Wines has medication for the issue and knows, when it flares, he must remain calm and reduce his heart-rate.
"He's had it happen twice now in games, it's happened before at training," Hinkley said.
"And he's really comfortable, he's really calm about it.
"You can imagine when something like that is going on it can be a little bit rattling.
"But he's experienced it now, he knows exactly what happens... we expect Ollie will play next week."
Wines self-diagnosed his problem with about 80 seconds remaining in the first quarter against the Hawks.
"He said my heart's out of rhythm, basically," Hinkley said.
"He came off with his own accord... more importantly than anything else, Ollie is really comfortable with it.
"He knows what's going on and he knows how to treat it and he doesn't get any more stressed than he needs to."
Harley hype reaching new heights

Tongala export Harley Reid has delivered another best-on-ground performance for Waalitj Marawar(West Coast), as he helped his side deliver a brilliant upset over Narrm (Melbourne) at Optus Stadium in Perth.
The young Eagle collected 19 disposals and kicked two goals in the 35-point win on Sunday evening, drawing praise not only from his own coach Adam Simpson following the win, but opposition coach Simon Goodwin also.
Against the vaunted Melbourne midfield and the likes of Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Jack Viney, Reid did as he pleased in just his ninth game of AFL football, leading Goodwin to admit the young star was someone they “didn’t handle well”.
"He's an incredibly exciting player and I can understand why there's so such hype around him. He's a high-quality player," Goodwin said.
"His ability to impact stoppage, especially at centre bounce, and then go forward and have an impact forward of centre was significant in the game. He's a high-quality player and he's only going to get better.
"We had some plans in terms of what we wanted to do with him, but once you put him in space in a stoppage situation he's incredibly talented, he's quick, he's powerful, and he gets the ball out into space. He's someone that we didn't handle well today."
Reid already boasts one of the best highlight reels in the competition, and only added to that with two spectacular moments on Sunday.
The first was a ridiculous running goal, when he won the centre clearance and took three bounces at full tilt, evading Petracca while booting the goal from 45m out.
The second saw Reid again win a centre clearance, before delivering what is quickly becoming a trademark fend-off on Clayton Oliver, which was followed up with a ‘don’t argue’ on Petracca in the same passage.
While Reid’s exploits continue to impress, another young Echuca export at the Eagles in Noah Long has been ruled out for the season following a knee injury.
The pressure forward was substituted out of the Eagles’ round eight match against Essendon, with the club confirming last week he suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury which would require surgery, ruling Long out for the rest of the year.
