On Wednesday, July 10, Murray River Council welcomed seven new Australian citizens at a ceremony at Rich River Golf Club in Moama.
Among these were Ezekiel Cumpa, 10, and his father Ricardo, who completed the process for himself and his son.
“My father did the test, and I just became an Australian citizen,” Ezekiel said.
Ezekiel and his family moved to Australia from the Philippines about nine years ago, when he was one year old.
He is excited to officially become an Australian citizen and share the news at school.
“(I feel) good,” he said.
“My teacher knows that I’m doing it.”
One of Ezekiel’s favourite parts about living in the Echuca-Moama region is how peaceful the people are.
Something Ezekiel likes the most about Australia is the food, especially the sweet treats.
“Tim Tams or Milo (are my favourite),” he said.
