ABC Radio presenter Nick Rheinberger has spent the last decade travelling around Australia and has declared that Finley has the best vanilla slice in the country.
Mr Rheinberger remarked he enjoyed the thin dusting of icy sugar on top and the delicious custard.
Finley Bakery owner Andrew Richardson said he was proud the small town of Finley could be considered the radio announcer’s best.
‘‘I won’t give away my recipe, our apprentices have to work 12 months before they learn how to bake it,’’ he said with a laugh.
Finley Bakery & Patisserie is also set to have a new look menu designed and painted by Finley High School students.
For the last few weeks students from Years 8 and 9 have been working in their own time to create the menu board, which will have small paintings representing something around Finley.
The background is inspired by Indigenous artist Albert Namatjira and includes a rolling pin for the bakery, Kelly Grain’s silos, gum trees and smaller trees, and a train going through town.
More artwork will be added to the menu board by Finley Bakery pastry chef Micka Littlejohn.
‘‘It’s just a nice project to encourage some local kids with talent,’’ Mr Richardson said.
‘‘I had no say in what they did, it was completely up to them and they’ve done a great job already.’’
