Featuring a three-course meal and matching St Anne’s wine pairings, the event centred around 25 pieces of art by four artists with local connections. Ten of these works were sold through the event.
Murray River Art founder Alan Davidson is passionate about platforming up-and-coming artists, and was happy to introduce four of his 12 artists to attendees.
“I’ve got some work at Johnny and Lyle, some at Three Black Sheep, some at Hammond Providore,” he said.
“But this is my first big event.
“This is just four I’m showcasing tonight.”
Inspired by her surrounds, Steffanie Tisi had six of her pieces on show at the event.
Much of Miss Tisi’s family is from Mathoura, and the influence of that environment is clear with her aerial-view works Murray River Red Dust and Murray River Sunburnt Country.
Down the road in Torrumbarry, artist Pete Conroy has a unique style, stretching out limbs and facial features in his portraitures.
Six of Mr Conroy’s pieces were for sale, including Working Girls and freshly painted Leader of the Pack.
Former Echuca resident, Bendigo-based Daniel Wein had 10 of his works showcased at the event.
His multicoloured portraits, including Purple Haze and Melancholia, are painted entirely with a diamond-shaped palette knife, always starting with the eyes.
Moama local and primary school art teacher Cindy-Lee Pedrana had three of her paintings on display.
Drawing on the banks of the Murray River and its surrounds, her works also decorate the walls at Hammond Providore.
The Cal has previously hosted dining and wine pairing nights, but the introduction of art is a new concept for the venue.
Mr Davidson acted as sommelier, menu guru and gallery tour guide, walking guests through the dishes and the pieces through the night.
Murray River Art and the Cal hope to stage another similar event soon, showing off local culinary, winemaking and artistic talent.
