Every year GV Vets holds its dress-up day to raise funds for children with heart disease and show support for one of its own.

On Friday, June 16, owners and pets alike were treated to appointments with the Joker, Superman, Batman and more, as employees suited up for a great cause.
Vet nurse Katherine Bryne lost her son Elijah to heart disease five years ago.
Throughout her journey with Elijah in and out of the Royal Children’s Hospital before his passing, children’s charity HeartKids offered invaluable support free of charge.

“They support affected children and their families, and provide education,” Mrs Bryne said.
“It’s ongoing support, they hold fun days and other social events that allow you to connect with people going through the same things, and we’ve made lifelong friends.”
GV Vets had already held fundraising walks for the cause, and when Mrs Bryne saw an advertisement for a ‘superhero boss day’, her colleagues couldn’t have been happier to hold their own version to raise funds for HeartKids.
“We’d be close to having raised $10,000 at this point,” Mrs Bryne said.
“The money is fantastic, but it’s also just awareness.
“One in four children are affected by heart disease, I don’t think enough people realise just how common it is.”
Funds are raised via $2 raffle tickets, with bikes, a children’s wooden kitchen set, a superhero pillow and a quilt, along with other items donated by local businesses, family and friends, up for grabs.

Raffle tickets are available to purchase until the end of the month and the raffle will be drawn in the first week of July.
