On the evening of Friday, September 20, the Strathmerton Football Netball Club ended its season on a high with its annual presentation ceremony.
Here is a breakdown of the major award winners across both football and netball.
Senior football:
- Best-and-fairest TL Christie Memorial: Sam Lewis and Matthew Ryan.
- Runner-up: Tim Looby.
- Most consistent: Ray Powles Memorial: Josh Payne.
- Most determined: Luke Collyer.
- Most dedicated: Zack Betson.
- Best first-year player and receiver of the Andrew Powles Memorial: Mitch Payne.
- Leading goal kicker: Tim Looby (123 goals)
- MVP: Sam Lewis
Reserves football:
- Best-and-fairest: Zeke Bunge.
- Runner-up best-and-fairest: Mark Luci.
- Most consistent: Clayton Beer.
- Most improved: Corey Hackney.
- Most determined: Josh Beer.
- Coaches award: Jaxon Bury.
- Leading goal kicker award: Tim Cantrill.
In the A-grade netball:
- Best-and-fairest: Olivia Ryan.
- Runner-up: Meg Denson.
- Players’ player: Olivia Ryan.
- Best in finals: Vanessa Ward.
Notably, Brian ‘Fred’ Henderson was also announced as the first person to receive Legend status of the SFNC.
Fred played his first game for the club in 1957 and retired having played 330 games of senior footy.
He was a five-time best-and-fairest winner and played no fewer than 14 representative games in the Murray League.
The SFNC’s newest life members were also announced.
Life members are recognised for having played over 200 games with the club while volunteering many hours of their own time with the club.
