Now, at 24, Ms Cross has won the Moama Bowling Club Best Home Based Business Award.
“I’m stoked,” she said.
“I absolutely was not expecting that, so many other finalists were in it and I didn’t think that a cleaning business would succeed ... must’ve done something right.”
Her business is an NDIS, TAC, WorkSafe and aged care cleaning provider, and offers services such as carpet, upholstery and tile steam-cleaning; domestic and commercial cleaning; and window and specialised cleaning.
Ms Cross suffered a major setback only months after beginning her business, finding herself in intensive care after suffering a horse-related injury.
After three months in recovery, she swung back into action, expanding to a team of now 10 and servicing more than 100 clients.
Ms Cross said being recognised by the judges was an honour.
“It’s amazing to know that people think that I’ve done a good job,” she said.
“Fellow businesses think that I’ve done a good job. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
