Lockington
The club has enjoyed some ideal weather for the many bowlers over the Christmas/New Year period.
On New Year's Eve, the open fours attracted 76 bowlers for the Moama Bowling Club supported event.
Clubs represented were Bendigo, Calivil, City of Echuca, Elmore, Lockington, Mathoura, Moama, Rich River, Rochester, Stanhope and Tongala.
Four clubs had three teams each competing in the event.
At the end of the three games (1x15 ends and 2x10 ends) there were three undefeated teams.
Unfortunately a couple of two-game winners came to grief in the final game, beaten by teams seeking their first win.
Life was not meant to be easy.
The winners were decided on a points and shots-up system.
The composite rink comprising Bill Curnow, Alan Clement, Garth Wiffin, Kelvin Wiffin (s) from Moama, Tongala and Rochester amassed 81 points plus 19 shots to win the day.
In second place was the team of Norm Cheong, Cyril Evans, Geoff Mulcahy, Peter Myers (s) from Stanhope on 78 points 9 shots.
Third place was taken out by the local members including Les Brereton, Neil Haines, Kalvin Stout, Frank Chugg (s) with 77.5 points 17 shots.
The special competition winners included Cyril Evans, Bev Brereton and Merv Harvey.
Club secretary Neil Haines and tournament secretary Chris Stewart thanked all bowlers for their support with Haines making special thanks to Kevin Humbert and Les Brereton on preparing the magnificent greens, plus repairing the storm-damaged shade area.
Moama Bowling Club was acknowledged for their continued support to all district clubs.
The women were congratulated on the mighty effort in preparing the excellent meals during the day with several women manning the kitchen from 8am to stumps at 5pm.
Thanks to Denise Gilmore for her attention to a bowler that felt ill during the final game.
On Wednesday afternoon, the semi-final of the club championship between Graham Turner and Tom Davis was played before an appreciative crowd.
In the early stanza, Davis continued on his merry way with his special brand of bowls that he has displayed over the past games to edge out to lead 13-6.
The left-handed Turner was having a little trouble determining the pace of the green and tried valiantly to stem the tide.
However, Davis was in control to lead 24-19 and almost having a berth in the final at his mercy.
Suddenly, Turner made a late comeback to pick up two shots and a single to trail 22-24 and a chance to win the game.
Another two shots to Turner levelled the scores at 24-all.
On the final end both bowlers had close bowls, but Turner was able to win the measure and claim a spot in the final where he will meet another left-hander in Russell Shawcross.
Both Turner and Davis were applauded as they left the green.
The two-bowl triples tournament scheduled for January 10 has been cancelled due to a clash with local tournaments and the CVBD State Fours.

We welcome in the New Year of 2021 and the resumption of the CVBD 2020-21 Weekend Pennant Season on Saturday, January 9.
The clouds of COVID-19, border restrictions, social distancing and the use of face masks are hanging over us, but are more manageable than previously.
Mid-week pennant will resume on Friday, January 22.
Let's hope that the season can run smoothly through until the finals which are scheduled to be played in February and March.
Men's 100-up entries are closing on Sunday, January 10 so those intending to participate need to have their details placed on the entry sheet in the display board by that date.
Ladies social bowls recommenced on Tuesday, January 5 and will be continuing through until further notice.
Entry sheets for each week will be placed in the display board.
Likewise Wednesday jackpot pairs starts up for 2021 on January 6 with a 9.30am start and entry sheets are on the board as usual, or phoning the club and leaving your details on our answering system prior to 8am on the day.
As an opening to 2021 we held a Skins Cardinal Challenge on Sunday, January 3 which proved to be most popular and well received by 40 bowlers, mostly from our club, and others from Echuca, Moama, Lockington and Rochester.
Judging by general opinion and positive comments it's likely we will have more games with this format during the year, and into the future, as a regular feature of our club programme.
Winners on the day were "The Cops & Robbers" made up of Ken Dashwood, Ron Ritchie, Keith Hewitt and Paul Kearney.
Well done to them for taking home the major prize sponsored by Leon Sharp Plumbing.
A small but quality field played in our final game for 2020 of Jackpot Pairs on Wednesday, December 29 with the following bowlers taking home some Christmas goodies.
1st: Colin Hayes and Mel Velt - 55 points/11 shots up.
2nd: Roy Berryman and Gerry Devlin - 54 points/11 shots up.
3rd: Tim Noar and Graeme Williams - 53 points/6 shots up.
Repecharge: Greg Clymo and John Langley - 5 shots.
