Chloe Portwine, 16, has taken up the Stride4Stroke challenge as it is an issue close to home.
Stride4Stroke is the foundation’s major annual fundraiser and encourages participants to get active while also raising money to support programs and resources.
Young Chloe said she was fundraising for her dad Dan, who suffered a sudden stroke at only 35.
“I’m doing Stride4Stroke for my dad who had a stroke back in 2016. It’s been a bit of a challenge since then,” she said.
“I’m hoping to raise money and awareness just so other people know and to get a bit of money for the (Stroke Foundation) so they can do more research.”
As a result of Mr Portwine’s stroke, he and his family had to leave their home as he could no longer work as a dairy farmer.
After eight years, the family has found its feet again doing beef and hay farming and has become more proactive when it comes to health.
Mr Portwine said he was surprised when Chloe approached him about doing Stride4Stroke.
“She surprised me a bit when she came to me and said she was going to do it,” he said.
“I’m really proud of her, she’s doing a great job doing it.”
Chloe has already raised $1600 of her $2000 goal thanks to the support of family, friends and her school.
