On Friday, November 29, independent blues artist Geoff Achison will be performing music from his latest album Don’t Play Guitar Boy.
Mr Achison has played on stages all over the world and has stories to tell from his 30-year career.
In 2020 he was also inducted into the Blues Music Victoria Hall of Fame.
Before he takes to the stage on the Friday, there will be an artists talk held over afternoon tea in Nathalia’s non-for-profit arts centre, The G.R.A.I.N Store.
Mr Achison said he has enjoyed performing in Nathalia over the years because of his connection to regional areas.
“I am so looking forward to coming to Nathalia, I have played there at least once a year for the past few years and always had an incredible time and I just love the people there,” he said.
“I have lived in Melbourne for the last 35 years but I am a country boy at heart because I grew up in regional Victoria. I just love going back to Nathalia and spending time there.”
A week on from Mr Achison’s show, Walmajarri Elder Kankawa will hold a show on Friday, December 6.
Kankawa will be joined by Australian folk musician Archer and will perform blues music in different languages including Walmatjarri, Bunaba, Gooniyandi, Kimberly Creole and English.
Kankawa has done great things during her 80 years of life including touring with Hugh Jackman, developing the Walmajarri Dictionary and raising awareness around alcohol abuse and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) in Indigenous communities.
Her companion Archer said that after visiting Nathalia he had wanted Kankawa to experience the community for herself.
“I actually recorded an album up there on the river and I just had it in my head that Kankawa should come to [Nathalia],” he said.
“I just thought it would be nice to get her and the people there together.”
Both shows will go from 7pm to 9pm at The G.R.A.I.N Store.
