We’ve seen it in football, netball and bowls — now it’s time for tennis to taste the fire of interleague action in 2024.
Goulburn Murray Lawn Tennis Association will take on Albury Tennis Association in a cross competition clash, hitting the mutual grass courts of Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club this Saturday afternoon.
With a bye in the GMLTA GM1 division approaching, the association has selected a squad of 16 of its best and brightest talents to don the league colours.
Each of the four GM1 sides — Numurkah Warriors, Nathalia-based Velvet Tigers, Shepparton Lawn Average Joes and Shepparton Lawn The Valley — has representation within the interleague squad.
GMLTA president and Numurkah Warriors frontman Mark Mills was rapt to see the return of interleague tennis, welcoming the upcoming challenge against a strong Albury opposition.
“We are all looking forward to a great day’s tennis against some quality opponents in what is a first of its kind in a very long time,” he said.
“It shapes up as bragging rights for one of the two top tennis associations outside the Melbourne/Geelong area.”
