The scheduled ceremonies were approved at the November council meeting, with events spread throughout the year.
Mayor Garner Smith said council was honoured to play a role in assisting residents to become Australian citizens.
“During 2024, council helped 27 residents become Australian citizens, including 14 in October in what was our largest ceremony held in council’s history,” he said.
Citizenship ceremonies enable candidates to officially receive their Certificate of Australian Citizenship.
“It also fulfils the requirements under Australian citizenship law and provides an opportunity for Gannawarra Shire Council to officially welcome its new citizens,” Cr Smith said.
The first ceremony will be held on Sunday, January 26, followed by events on Monday, April 28; Monday, July 28; and Monday, October 20, the final three beginning at 6pm.
The ceremony on January 26 coincides with Australia Day celebrations planned in Gannawarra, with one-off events held on the remaining scheduled dates.
