Gannawarra Shire Council announced on Monday, December 2, that upgrades to a 300m section of Murray Pde in Koondrook would begin this week.
Part of the council’s 2024/25 capital works program, the project will see a section of the road sealed between Koondrook-Barham Bridge and Forest St.
Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson said the northern section of the parade connected motorists to Grigg Rd and the Murray River crossing.
It also links to Koondrook Primary School, which includes a kindergarten and child health services centre.
“These improvements will enable all-weather access to this section of the town, which will benefit current and future residents, as well as visitors to the area,” Mr Rollinson said.
Murray Pde will be realigned to correctly place the road within the road reserve as part of the works, ensuring it meets infrastructure standards.
Along with sealing the road’s surface, new storm-water drainage systems will also be installed.
Existing power lines may need to be realigned to accommodate the new road layout in line with infrastructure safety standards.
“Council thanks residents and motorists for their patience as these works occur and looks forward to the completion of these much-needed works next year,” Mr Rollinson said.
