With warmer weather and the anticipated carloads of visitors heading to Echuca-Moama, the temporary bins will cater to the influx of campers in the region.
Director sustainability Michael Sharp said the initiative helped deal with waste problems created by travellers.
“While we are excited to welcome all visitors, the rubbish they leave behind is certainly unwelcome,” Mr Sharp said.
The skips are in place solely for visitors’ use and are not to be used for residential waste, Mr Sharp said.
“We will closely monitor the skips for any misuse,” he said.
“Our contractors will regularly empty these bins, but if a skip bin is full, we ask you not to place rubbish on the ground next to the bin as this creates a hazard for people and wildlife.”
Excess rubbish should be taken to a resource recovery centre, where campers’ waste will be taken free of charge.
The skip bins will be placed at Echuca East Boat Ramp, Victoria Park, Torrumbarry Roadhouse and Gunbower Recreation Reserve.
They will be in place from Christmas through to the new year to accommodate for the peak camping season.
