The Inland Outrigger Canoe Club of Echuca-Moama competed in the Echuca Mini Marathon on October 12 organised by Paddling Victoria.
The IOCC competed in the OC2 relay class, with three teams of two paddlers changing over after the first leg of 12 kms, with the second and third legs 18 km each.
The day commenced with an early start 7.15 am from the Jack Edwards Park in Barmah.
The early morning start allowed minimal impact with recreational boating and an effort to minimise the strong winds forecast for the day.
The Echuca Mini Marathon commenced at Barmah and finished at Moama Beach, a distance of 48 kms, with the relay teams having two riverside stops for changeovers.
These changeovers were in one case a challenge with the high river water and absence of sand bar, the last leg team held up by entanglement with a fishing leader line.
Overall Echuca-Moama was successful with first in its class, OC2 relay, and second overall, a good achievement and enjoyable day for all.
The IOCC is looking forward to organising and competing in their Southern Zone Sprints racing in Nagambie in late November.
