We Won Midweek Pennant players are still on a high, one week on after their nail-biting victory.
Tunga played Commercial Club at Corowa Civic in the Grand Final, every player contributed and each rink fought their own battle.
We came away with a 60 to 55 shot win. For some it was the very first time they had won a trophy of any kind (and wore it to work the next day.)
For others it was their first bowls trophy and for one player it was the first after ten attempts at various clubs, but for everyone involved it was an awesome result.
Disappointing for Commercial Club who had gone through the season undefeated, but they were a decent team of players. It was a rewarding day for Tungamah Bowls Club, as many of these mid-week bowlers have only been playing for two years, and this was their first pennant season.
Many also played Saturday Pennant in either the A3s or B1s, with both these teams finishing third but being defeated in the Elimination Final.
A great effort for a small club. Thank you to those many supporters who made the effort to travel to Corowa and to those that took time off work to come and support, it was appreciated, as was the celebration back at the clubhouse.
The celebration continued on Thursday night as training continued. Several still had the medal around their neck and wearing their Pennant shirts.
Crowd was terrific even though the season has concluded, many kids playing around the green as adults practised.
A challenge on corner-to-corner bowling, tested players out and we saw some talent in the “never bowled before stakes” even the kids had their own competition.
Entertainment after was appreciated by those in attendance and members draw was won by Troy Costigan. Tungamah never fails to surprise, it’s well worth your attendance to check us out.

April 5 - Boosey Classic the O’Hallorans Roller Door 1000.

Wednesday Social Bowls
Last Wednesday, March 5 saw 28 players participating in Wednesday Social Bowls; the welcome milder weather may have contributed to the upswing in numbers.
As usual the nominated 3 bowl pairs format, played over 22 ends, proves very popular with players.
The winners were Mick Reilly and Barb Tennyson who shared the first prize of $100 and a drink card each.
Second prize was won by the team of Sue Evans and Noel Millar, who shared $60.
The losing side consolation prize of $40 was shared by Ray Brown and Norm Windebank.
The first lucky number raffle prize of $20 was won by Ray Brown and the second Lucky Number Raffle prize of $10 went to Fred Donaldson.
Single entries and visitors from surrounding clubs and further afield are very welcome to participate; single entries and visitors please include a contact telephone number when adding your names to the entry lists which are located on the bowls office noticeboard. Just a reminder that as the Hahn SuperDry Tournament is being played this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday there will be no Wednesday Social Bowls this Wednesday, March 12.
When Wednesday Social resumes on Wednesday, March 19, the games will commence at 12.30pm.
Friday Social Bowls
Friday Social Bowls resumes on Friday, March 21. Friday’s have proved to be hugely popular over the last few years, during the cooler months, and all rinks are, more often than not, taken up.
The format of nominated 2 x 4 x 2 bowl pairs appeals to all bowlers, so to avoid missing out we would urge bowlers to place their names on the entry sheets located at the bowls office.
See you on Friday, March 21!
Milestone Madness Tournament.
The inaugural Milestone Chemicals Madness Tournament was held last Thursday, March 6 and there was a full field of bowlers participating over the two greens, both of which were running really well.
The format of the tournament was a side of four bowlers who played one game of 1 bowl fours, followed by a game of 3 bowl pairs where the team of four was split into 2 sides to battle against other pairings.
This was followed by a game of 2 x 4 x2 pairs where one power play end could be nominated per side.
To top things off, the last game was 2 bowl fours where each player rotated through the four positions, lead, 2nd, 3rd and Skip.
The format was both innovative and challenging. Lunch was provided and all players enjoyed the cold meats and salad.
Thanks go to Milestone Chemicals, who so generously sponsored the tournament.
We hope that this is the beginning of a fruitful relationship with Milestone, an Australian company who have been established for some 75 years.
A huge vote of thanks to Anne Miles who secured the sponsorship and devised the format for the tournament and who put a lot of work into ensuring that the day was a success.
The raffle prizes of Milestone Chemical Products were generously donated by Milestone.
Peter James from Buller Wines made a generous donation of wines for the raffle, thank you Peter.
YMGCR also kindly donated cinema vouchers toward the raffle.
Thanks also go those who helped out on the day, Vicki Withers and Lynne Baxter, selling raffle tickets.
Kerry Kinnane for co-ordinating the scoring, and scoreboard. Bowls Treasurer, Shirley Hummel also assisted with collating the green fees and the distribution of prize monies. The winners were Wade McPherson’s four, from Club Mulwala.
Second place went to Ray Brown’s four, from YMGCR and third prize was won by Anne Mile’s team, also from YMGCR.
Until next week, good bowling.
