Murray River Council, in partnership with local artist Zowie Crump, is bringing new artworks to local primary schools through a creative mural project.
The project will see murals painted at Bunnaloo, Tooleybuc, Barham, Wakool/Burraboi and Moulamein primary schools.
Murray River Council Mayor John Harvie said the project is a great way to engage students in public art while encouraging creativity and school pride.
“This initiative not only gives students the opportunity to be part of a larger-scale art project, but it also supports our local arts and cultural sector,” he said.
“It’s a fantastic example of community collaboration that will leave a lasting impact on our schools and towns.”
Each school will collaborate with local artist Ms Crump to create designs and choose the location of their mural.
The murals will be a visual representation of each school's values and ideas and will provide a lasting legacy for students and staff.
Students will also be involved in the creative process, either designing the artwork themselves for Ms Crump to recreate or working together on a theme.
Ms Crump is currently consulting schools on their ideas and works on the mural will happen throughout the coming months.
The mural project is being delivered as part of the Council’s Arts and Culture Strategy and is funded through the council’s arts and culture budget.
