Campaspe residents are making significant improvements in their recycling habits, with contamination rates declining by nearly four per cent since 2024.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell praised the community's efforts.
“It's great that more Campaspe residents are using their yellow bins for the right items, as it makes a big difference in making sure we can reuse materials where possible and helping us all in the long run,” he said.
Campaspe Shire Council secured a grant from Sustainability Victoria to boost recycling education through various media channels, including radio, billboards, cinema and social media advertising.
The funding will also support the distribution of 'Quick Sort Guide' fridge magnets to all residents to help them sort waste correctly.
Council's sustainability director, Michael Sharp, highlighted the significance of proper waste disposal.
“The good news is that kerb side recycling contamination has dropped by four per cent, or 108 tonnes a year, and when you consider that the PS Adelaide paddle steamer weighs 58 tonnes, 108 tonnes is a huge amount of jumpers, batteries and plastic chip packets that are no longer contaminating our recycling,” he said.
