The International Women's Day dinner, hosted by council on Thursday, March 6, not only provided a memorable meal for attendees, but also generated a generous donation for The Kyabram Gift.
For those unfamiliar with the purple gift box icon seen throughout the shire, The Kyabram Gift is a charity organisation that provides financial assistance to cancer patients and their families during treatment.
It also provides emotional support for those affected by the disease and practical assistance with daily tasks.
The substantial donation was raised through fundraising efforts on the night, specifically a raffle, which generated $1357.10.
Cr Zoe Cook, who attended the dinner, said the amount raised was a “testament to the generosity” of women across the shire.
“Not only in the amount raised and donated on the night, but also in all the background work women do every day to organise and fundraise as they concurrently provide care and support across our community,” she said.
Council decided to round up the sum to $1500, which was presented to The Kyabram Gift representatives Ali Walsh, Ruth Green and Helen Heard on Monday, March 31 in Kyabram.
The cheque was presented by Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell and Cr Cook.
“Any support we can offer The Kyabram Gift brings comfort in the knowledge that our contribution is helping those in our community who are struggling through a difficult situation that could indeed become reality for any of us at some point in our lives,” Cr Mackrell said.
