Eleven knives and a tomahawk were seized during a proactive rural crime-related operation in the Murray River Police District, including the Deniliquin region.

The three-day Operation Brushwood was conducted over the Easter long weekend.
Officers attached to the Rural Crime Prevention Team with assistance from the Murray River Police District, patrolled National Parks and state forests, stock reserves and public roads.
The following results were achieved:
• 16 vehicle stops and two vehicle searches;
• 11 hunting style knives and one tomahawk/throwing axe seized;
• 16 firearm safe storage inspections. Three failed, and 20 firearms and ammunition were seized;
• Two people issued with firearms suspension notices;
• 33 infringements issued for traffic offences;
• 18 hunting dogs inspected under the Animal Companion Act
• One apiary inspection;
• One travel stock statement inspection;
• One macropod harvester inspection; and,
• Three licensed premises inspections.
During the operation, a 35 year-old man stopped driving at Deniliquin was issued with an infringement notice for possessing a knife in a public place.
The Victorian registered ute he was driving was stopped on the Cobb Hwy 5km from Deni about 11.30am on Easter Sunday.

Police seized five knives from the vehicle, which they allege were not secured.
Two hunting dogs were also searched and were compliant.
On Good Friday, about 11.45pm, a Victorian registered ute was stopped on the Cobb Hwy at Booligal, about 1km north of Merungle Road.
Police seized a throwing axe and four knives from the vehicle.
Officers also checked four hunting dogs, and allege one had four puncture wounds as a result of hunting several days earlier.
Police said the dog had not been taken to a vet for treatment.
A 20 year-old man was issued with an infringement for possessing a knife in a public place.
A 17 year-old, the owner of the injured dog, was issued with an infringement notice for the charge of being in charge of an animal fail to provide vet treatment, and a caution for animal cruelty. He was also fined for possess knife in a public place.
