Much like contemporaries L-G, the Cats’ fate was decided by a poor third quarter showing after keeping pace through the other three periods.
The Mighty Mounts (2.3) got in front early, but couldn’t manage a lead more than a goal, with LBU kicking 1.3 at the same time.
While Mt Pleasant slowly but surely increased its lead in the second quarter, the Cats were never completely out of it, trailing by nine at the major break.
LBU lost it for itself in the third term, failing to put any points on the board, with Mighty Mounts launching a full attacking assault through much of the period, kicking six majors and three minors to pull away.
The Cats managed to claw back incrementally down the stretch kicking 2.1, equalling Mt Pleasant’s tally for the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately, that last effort wouldn’t be enough to draw it back and the Cats were left licking the wounds of a 50-point defeat.
The final score was LBU 5.7 (37) to Mt Pleasant 13.9 (87).
Stuart Taylor was the Cats’ most lethal attacking player, kicking a pair of goals, while Mt Pleasant’s Mitchell Bennett had a day, bagging six for the match.
Bowden Stone, Patrick Keele, Tyler Phillips, Matt Hore, James Yosiffidis, Thomas Leech were named as LBU’s best in the loss.
The Cats will remain at home in round three to face Colbinabbin and will celebrate their Men’s Health Day with ex-AFL player Tom Boyd speaking as a special guest.
