A new battery energy storage system has been proposed for Shepparton, representing a major investment in energy infrastructure for the region.
If approved, the facility would be built in Grahamvale, adjacent to the existing terminal substation. The system would have a capacity of approximately 480 megawatts, with four hours of storage. It is designed to deliver a more reliable energy supply to homes, businesses and commercial users across Shepparton and surrounding areas.
Construction of the facility would be expected to generate between 120 and 180 full-time jobs, with at least four ongoing operational roles once complete.
Project developer Avenis Energy has indicated it would work with local service providers and businesses where possible during the project’s delivery.
The application to construct the facility is set to be assessed by the Victorian planning minister through the state’s Development Facilitation Program.
Avenis Energy will host community information sessions on Tuesday, May 6, at the Riverlinks Conference Centre in Shepparton. Sessions will run from 11am to 2pm and from 5pm to 7pm.
