The Ambassadorship Program was established by the NSW Department of Education to identify high-performing schools that have implemented practices that have demonstrated the greatest impact on student achievement.
Mathoura Public School — working in partnership with nine other ambassador schools, NSW Department of Education, and leading universities — will share its knowledge and expertise and the evidenced-based practices used in the school to successfully scale and implement these across the state to improve the learning outcomes of all NSW students.
An Australian first, this program focuses on an innovative collaborative research approach, with co-design being central to the program.
Mathoura Public School was selected due to strong performance across a range of measures including NAPLAN, reading and numeracy targets, expected growth and attendance.
Throughout 2022, representatives from NSW Department of Education will work collaboratively with staff at Mathoura Public School focusing on identifying the effective, evidence-based practices that have led to the sustained success of Mathoura Public School.
Stage two of this process is expected to continue until 2024, with a focus on how to scale these practices to other NSW schools to support improved learning outcomes for all students.
Mathoura Public School principal Janice Eddy said the school felt honoured to be recognised as an Ambassador School.
"This is a significant recognition within the education community,“ she said.
“The academic growth of students across all stages is a testament to the student-centric practices we implement daily.
“Mathoura Public School staff look forward to the opportunity to share their skills and contribute to the scaling of this in schools across the state for the betterment of all NSW students.”
When asked to identify the practices employed in achieving and sustaining the identified achievement, Mrs Eddy said: “Our students are at the forefront of every decision that is made at our school. Our teaching and learning programs are data-driven, differentiated, and concepts are explicitly taught providing all students with quality learning experiences that enable them to achieve their ‘where to next’ on their learning journey.”
All students at Mathoura Public School have individual learning goals, and students can articulate what they are currently working towards achieving, and are provided with quality feedback based on their progress.
Additional education support is provided within all classrooms, enabling individualised and small-group targeted programs to be effectively delivered to students.
“Mathoura Public School boasts an amazing group of dedicated teaching and support staff, who are committed to continuing to further extend and enhance their teaching practice, ensuring students of our school are provided with the best educational learning experiences daily,” Mrs Eddy said.
