Murray River Council community and economic development director Sarah Ryan said while tickets were half-sold out, locals should book their tickets sooner rather than later.
“People are really leaving it to the last minute to book,” she said.
“It’s brand new, they might have seen the show last year, but this year is all brand new, it won’t be the same as last year.”
The theme for 2022’s event will be based on ‘Connections’, which is timely given the last two years spent separated by border restrictions.
“The purpose of this event was to not only aid economic development and improve social and mental wellbeing, but it was about the twin-towns being reconnected after being separated for such an extended period of time with border closures throughout COVID,’’ she said.
The Murray River Council event will run from July 31 to August 21, with new installations and projections set on the backdrop of the Murray River and newly updated Horseshoe Lagoon footbridges.
“Council has invested significantly with new infrastructure at Horseshoe Lagoon,” Ms Ryan said.
“Two of the footbridges are being replaced, and there’s a second section that goes over the horseshoe part of the lagoon that’s been dilapidated and closed for a number of years that will be replaced with a brand new footbridge.”
These new footbridges will extend the lights trail for more than 400m to more than 1km.
After great success last year, the event is set to become an annual event on the winter calendar in the region, placed between the Winter Blues Festival on July 28 to 31, and the Australian Darts Open on August 2 to 6.
“If people are coming up for Winter Blues or the Darts Open, we hope they’d extend their stay for a couple of days to attend Moama Lights, or if people are already coming to town for Moama Lights, maybe they’d like to extend their stay to experience our other events,” Ms Ryan said.
General admission tickets for Moama Lights are available online from moamalights.com.au
