Mr Penno says while he is a late-comer to the world of art, he has always been interested in the field.
“Work, family and community service as a member of Rotary International always came first,” he said.
“Getting into my 60s I realised that I would have to find something to occupy myself in retirement.”
Mr Penno said he fell in love with acrylic paints after being inspired by artists on social media.
“I found these paints to be quite forgiving when mistakes are made, as you can easily paint over them,” he said.
“I particularly liked the work of Eric Siebenthal, who uses liquid acrylic paints, pouring them on to his work surfaces, and using air pressure to blow the paint across his boards, creating a myriad of abstract designs.
“I consider myself to be an artist who is prepared to push the boundaries of what paint can do to support the artist and as such there is quite a variation in the type of works that I produce.”
The Makers Market is currently featuring 11 stalls inside with honey, jams, Timor crafts, hot dogs and cakes, as well as acrylic works by Mr Penno available for purchase.
The market will be held on Saturday, June 11 from 9am to 1pm and is regularly held on the Saturday of a long weekend.
All proceeds from the market support the work of the Echuca-Moama Uniting Church.
