Footy Colours Day was a hit at Sacred Heart Primary School last Friday with $2000 raised for the Fight Cancer Organisation and students telling their teachers and parents that it was “the best day at school ever.”

Many of the students of Sacred Heart wore their favourite football team colours before everybody joined in for a colour run in the afternoon where students and teachers were dowsed in colourful chalk whilst also running under the fire brigades water cannon.
Inspiring Footy Colours Day Patient Ambassador and Sacred Heart Primary student Leni Ramsdale launched the day as she gave a speech to her peers and teachers before the year six students ran the days activities which included a visit from and some ball skills workshops by Yarrawonga senior footballers including coach Mark Whiley.
“The Fight Cancer Organisation tries to seek the fun side of things for the kids to get excited,” Leni said.
“This incredibly generous foundation originated in 1989 and to this day, they keep dedicating their lives to help others in critical situations, assisting many patients when help is required.
“They also provided our family and many other families with vital accommodation in Melbourne whilst going through the process.
“Each year an estimated 950 children and teenagers are given the diagnosis of cancer in Australia. On average during the period of time a person is receiving treatment, they are usually absent from school for up to six months.
“The foundation has definitely impacted me because of the help I received. I don’t think it would have been possible to be as up to date with my learning as I am now.
“With my role as an ambassador I have got to zoom with Felise Kaufusi with my year five classmates and at the beginning of the year I got to do a photoshoot with many footballers and other kids including Jack Crisp, Erica Fowler, Renee Garling and rugby player Reece Hodge.
“I hope you have had an awesome day and enjoyed all the activities the teachers and our assistants have provided us with.
“Thanks to all our extra helpers today and let’s go and have some fun! Get ready for a colour explosion!”
Sacred Heart Primary Schools Facebook page shared a status on Friday thanking a number of volunteers whilst a spokesperson for the school also reiterated what a great day was had.
“A massive thanks to Dean and Lauren at Mulwala Bakery for donating the cupcakes and to Millie, Eliza and Gracie for decorating the cupcakes,” the status read.
“Thanks also to our volunteers Glenn and Lyn Brear and Carmel for helping make sure Mr Price didn’t burn all the sausages.
“As a school community we raised $2000 but parents were also able to donate directly to the Fight Cancer Foundation.
“The bus companies were also great with students jumping on the bus in all their chalky clothes but the drivers said they loved seeing the children so happy. The whole community has been great.”
