A number of staff and volunteers assisted the 24 residents out of the facility and onto the MV Mary Ann on Wednesday, March 17.
Lifestyle co-ordinator Cindy McGrath said she was so excited for the residents to finally be out and about again.
“It's been about 12 months since we're been able to take our clients out anywhere, so we're so keen for them to finally be able to do this all again,” she said.
“And it was such a beautiful day weather-wise, so it just made it all the more special.”
She said the plans for this outing had been in the works for a few months, however there were some hurdles along the way.
“When we had our snap lockdown again, we were a bit worried, but it's also not something you can just organise overnight,” Ms McGrath said.
“And we couldn't have done it without our amazing volunteers that agreed to make the trip and give us a hand.”
The residents were treated to an hour-long cruise along the Murray River and enjoyed a lovely lunch provided by staff on the MV Mary Ann.
And to top it all off, there was some St Patrick's Day spirit in the air.
“We encouraged all the residents and staff to wear a bit of green, whether it be wearing a hat or a piece of green clothing,” maintenance and former lifestyle co-ordinator Bruce Howlett said.
“We wanted to make this an adventure that everyone can enjoy — and I reckon they did.”
