After being cancelled last year due to COVID-19 restrictions, organisers are looking forward to hosting a great event on March 27 to 28.
“Last year was supposed to be our best event yet,” Torrumbarry Community Club vice-president Sam Colvin said.
“It’s obviously disappointing that we had to cancel it, but we’re just happy to be holding one this year, depending on restrictions of course.”
About 500 anglers are expected to take to the water, with fishing allowed from Torrumbarry Weir to Turner’s Bend.
“We had 480 registrations last year and we’re expecting more this year,” Sam said.
“We always get lots of families come along, as well as people from around Victoria.
“There’s plenty of fish to be caught, including Murray cod, and everything is catch and release.”
There will be prizes for longest native fish, largest cod, mystery length golden perch, carp lotto and longest carp, as well as junior prizes, raffles and lucky draw numbers on the day.
“It’s a great weekend, with lots of fun to be had,” Sam said.
Fishing will be held from 7am to 5.30pm on Saturday, March 27, and 7am to 11am on Sunday, March 28.
An awards presentation will follow.
