On his way to a doctor's appointment, his only mode of transport decided to stop and Mr Hooper was at a loss.
But thankfully, a few strangers came to his rescue on the side of the road.
“I was going around trying to work out why my scooter had stopped working when a family with a caravan pulled up and asked if I was okay,” Mr Hooper said.
“I told them what had happened and the man offered to have a look for me.”
By this stage another man, a local, had also pulled up.
“This man said he had a shed around the corner and said if we pushed it around to his place he might be able to give it a look,” Mr Hooper said.
“He even said if he couldn't get it going he would put it on his trailer and take it home for me.”
Now running late for his appointment, the woman in the vehicle offered Mr Hooper a ride.
“I told her to drop me off around the corner, but she took me straight up to the door. She was very lovely,” he said.
“I was in the appointment for an hour-and-a-half before I got back to where my scooter was.”
After not being able to fix the scooter, the man offered Mr Hooper and his scooter a ride back to his house.
And while he may have needed to replace the scooter, the help he had received that day was priceless.
“I really could not be more thankful to all of them,” Mr Hooper said.
“I was glad I was able to thank them all on the day, but I want them to know I'm still grateful for all the help even now.
“I like to think I would be able to do the same for someone else one day.
“After everything happening with COVID-19, you don't expect complete strangers to drop everything and give you a hand.”
