Cohuna Garden Park will be one of a number of locations Australia-wide to host a Mother's Day Classic run on Sunday, May 9.
Australians far and wide are set to come together on Mother’s Day to celebrate and honour those affected by breast cancer and raise vital funds for breast cancer research, all while staying fit and active.
With 55 Australian women diagnosed with breast cancer each day - along with eight deaths - the Mother's Day Classic has raised and donated almost $38 million over 24 years to help fund 76 breast cancer research projects.
With people coming together at 75 locations nationwide to walk, run or jog in the Mother’s Day Classic, chief executive Zara Lawless said it was critical participants booked their spot this year.
“It is fantastic to have so many locations across the country where people can connect with the MDC community and take part in the event together on Mother’s Day in a COVID-safe manner,” Ms Lawless said.
“Due to the ever-changing climate we live in and the restrictions on public gatherings, participation numbers are capped at each location, so it is imperative that people book their spot and choose their MDC location of choice prior to Mother’s Day.
“These locations will be smaller in size and more informal than what we’ve hosted in the past, but they will all be big on community spirit.”
Even if participants are unable to attend on the day, they are encouraged to take part in the Mother’s Day Classic at a time and location of their choosing.
“We are urging participants to book in their MDC local location or indicate if they would like to do the walk/run or jog on their own day and time,” Ms Lawless said.
Cohuna is one of 16 metro and 16 regional locations in Victoria to host an event, with a classic also scheduled to run at Railway Reserve in Girgarre.
