Laurie Stewart has taken the reins, for the second time, and said he was honoured to have another crack at the role.
“I hope we have a year without any interruptions from COVID-19,” he said.
“Our fundraising has been curtailed and we couldn’t meet at one stage because of restrictions and some of our members live over the border in Moama.
“The main thing was our Christmas trailer raffle, that’s our main fundraiser, you’re talking probably $12,000 we can’t give back to the community.”
Mr Stewart has been involved with the Echuca Lions Club for 10 years, and in recent years co-ordinated the local Good Friday Appeal fundraising effort.
Given it is an “ageing” club, Mr Stewart said attracting new members would also be a priority.
“There are certain things we could do if we had younger and more agile members,” he said.
“In the early days we supplied firewood for pensioners and things like this, but being an older club now, it’s a bit hard to take on those things.”
Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh and Campaspe Shire Mayor Chrissy Weller both attended the changeover dinner, which saw the new board appointed.
