Coffee, cake and company connecting Echuca-Moama after COVID-19

A NEW initiative in Moama is working to reconnect the community after the COVID-19 pandemic saw people isolated and stuck at home for months at a time.

Moama Bakery is hosting Coffee, Cake and Company every Friday, offering complimentary morning tea, particularly aimed at the older generation.

“The idea is to engage people in the community after the 12 months we’ve had where people have become a bit disengaged,” Moama Bakery’s Jacqui Wegener said.

“We’ve noticed groups of new people coming to town and it’s a nice way for them to meet each other.”

The morning tea has been running for a month now with 20 to 30 people attending each week.

“We have some volunteers available if people have any questions about how to navigate their way around an iPhone or Facetime their grandchildren,” Ms Wegener said.

“It’s just a way to get people out and about and connected.”

After four catch-ups regulars are seeing some familiar faces, and there’s been offers to join local badminton and tai chi groups.

To meet some new people or catch up with friends, the morning tea runs on Fridays from 11 am to 12 pm at the Moama Bakery, at 57 Meninya St.
