The first in a five part series of the Easties Bedtime Stories will be held on Monday night at 7.30 pm for the school's locked down pupils.
Echuca's contestant on The Voice turned all four chairs in the blind auditions of the hit reality TV show, but on this occasional everyone will be facing her for the bedtime story session.
Acting principal Lindy Burke revealed Drew as the first of the celebrities to be involved in the program yesterday.
“She came through Echuca East. Fortunately for me I went to school with her mum,” Mrs Burke said.
She said that police and fire departments would be be represented, along with a couple of surprise presenters.
“At this stage it will run five nights, from Monday to Friday,” Mrs Burke said.
“We will do it with the green screen in the background and make it an interesting backdrop.
“Everyone has been amazing when we have asked them.
“We have drawn most of our guest readers from the East community.”
Mrs Burke said connecting with the school community during these extremely challenging times was vital.
“Throughout the pandemic and with the switch to and from remote and flexible learning, as a school, we wanted to come up with some fun ways to keep our kids engaged and connected to their learning outside of our regular remote learning tasks,” she said.
“Staff have been busy setting many challenges, games and activities online (many posted on Facebook in order to get the whole family involved) to keep our kids active and engaged throughout the lockdowns.
“One thing that we felt was missing, was reading to our kids.”
The segment will be posted on the Echuca East Primary School Facebook page each school night at 7:30 pm throughout lockdown.
“It is supportive of some normal night-time routines, getting ready for bed, story time and early to bed,” she said.
“Normal bedtime routines are important during lockdown.”
Mrs Burke said Echuca East staff had been fabulous ‘volunteering’ to allow her to film them read their favourite books, some of which had been presented in costume.
“I thought it might be fun to step it up a little and get some special guests or ‘celebrities’ involved,” Mrs Burke said.
“I love the saying that ‘not all superheroes wear capes’ and during this pandemic we have seen many people support us, care for us and entertain us along the way.
“There are so many inspiring role models for our kids in our community, and I love that they have happily jumped on board to be a part of the fun.
“Some of our celebrities were once Eastie kids themselves and it’s great to celebrate their achievements in the process.”
The ‘Easties Celebrity Guest Bedtime Story edition’ will certainly be a good way to call it a night for the school's population.
