The op shop got behind the fundraising efforts for the Echuca Regional Health Cancer and Wellness Centre, which needs a further $1.3 million to complete the build and fit-out.
Originally the op shop planned to donate all proceeds from sales made on Mondays in June, but a COVID-19 lockdown interrupted this plan, so it was continued through August.
“When we heard about the ERH Cancer and Wellness Centre being built we knew this was something we needed to support,” op shop manager Evie Cummins said.
“We raised more than $5000 but topped it up to an even $6000.
“We are so thankful for everyone who shopped with us during those two months, without your support we wouldn’t have been able to donate as much as we have.”
ERH medical day treatment nurse unit manager Lyn Jeffreson thanked the Epicentre Church Op Shop team and everyone who contributed to the fundraising effort.
“These amounts really help us along the way and it’s great to see the tally continue to increase,” she said.
The new cancer centre is being built on the corner of Service and Haverfield Sts in Echuca and will provide more local people with the option to receive treatment and support closer to home.
