Teacher Keshia-Lee Dean said she had wanted to get involved with the Greatest Shave initiative for a while.
After four years at St Anne’s in Kialla, she decided this was the year.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the World’s Greatest Shave initiative, which has helped raise millions for the Leukaemia Foundation and cancer victims across the globe.
“I had fully settled in at St Anne’s, I had a great connection with the students and I knew the school would get behind it,” Ms Dean said.
The students were able to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to cut Ms Dean’s braids, and there was also a staff raffle.
In the end, 10 students got to cut Ms Dean’s hair and four staff members had a shift behind the shaver.
“As teachers, we get to show the kids how important it is to do selfless acts and what happens when you give back to the community,” Ms Dean said.
Ms Dean’s effort raised almost $2000, with about $1000 coming from the St Anne’s College community.
“It was an incredible experience,” she said.
“Everyone was just so supportive and the kids were fantastic.”
