After growing his hair out for the past 12 months, he convinced his father, Geoff, to also commit to the shave at the American Hotel, Echuca, on Saturday, March 20.
“It was a random thing I wanted to do a year ago and so I thought I would grow it out and cut for a cause,” Mr Pilgrim said.
“I know the World's Greatest Shave is a fundraiser close to a lot of people's hearts and I just wanted to give back.”
The event is a way for people to fundraise for the Leukemia Foundation, but also an act of solidarity and a way to send a powerful message of hope to the 47 Australians who are diagnosed with blood cancer each day.
Mr Pilgrim was joined by a crowd of 60 people made up of friends, family, co-workers and more.
“It was great to have so many people there to support us and see us do the shave,” Mr Pilgrim said.
“I will admit, we probably didn't choose the best time because it was very chilly after that.”
Mr Pilgrim said he raised more than $5000, which was far greater than his original goal.
“I had only really planned to raise the $560, which is about the amount that will cover accommodation for families, but I was overwhelmed by the cash we did get in the end,” he said.
“I'm so grateful for everyone's support.”
